It’s that time of the year. We’ve had a few weeks of hot sun, the summer is winding down, and the tomatoes are absolutely abundant. August tomatoes are sweet, juicy and they simply taste like this particular time of year.
I think the perfect way to enjoy a summer tomato might just be sliced and dusted with flaky salt. Lately, I’ve been indulging in all the open face tomato sandwiches and have been topping all my tacos with sweet cherry tomatoes. Tonight I’ll be cooking ricotta gnocchi with a summer-y brown butter tomato sauce from Anna Jones’ The Modern Cook’s Year. On the docket yet this summer, I still want to make a classic caprese salad and try a batch of tomato shrub. I haven’t done the math but I might just be spending the majority of my grocery budget on tomatoes this month.
Now, your turn! Please share with us all. How are you enjoying tomatoes this year? What’s your favorite way to make the most of this fleeting tomato season? All the recipes and general tomato appreciation welcome!
